Career Paths to Join the Indian Air Force
There are three main branches in which you can join the IAF as an officer:
1. Flying Branch
Role: Fighter pilot, transport pilot, helicopter pilot.
Entry: NDA, AFCAT, CDS, NCC Special Entry.
2. Technical Branch
Role: Aircraft engineering, maintenance, and systems support.
Entry: AFCAT (via EKT), University Entry Scheme (UES), and other technical entries.

How to Become an Air Force Officer After 12th
1. National Defence Academy (NDA) Entry
Eligibility: Only male candidates who have completed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.
Exam Conducted By: UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).
Training: 3 years at NDA, Pune + 1 year at Air Force Academy, Hyderabad.
Age Limit: 16.5 to 19.5 years.
How to Become an Air Force Officer After Graduation
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test)
For both male and female graduates.
Held twice a year.
Age limit varies by branch (typically 20 to 26 years).
Requires a graduation degree (for Flying Branch, 60% marks in graduation with Physics & Maths at 10+2 level).
CDS (Combined Defence Services) Exam
Conducted by UPSC.
Male candidates can apply for Air Force Academy through CDS.
Requires Physics & Mathematics in 10+2 and a graduation degree.
NCC Special Entry
For candidates with a C certificate in NCC Air Wing with minimum ‘B’ grade.
No written exam. Entry through SSB interview.
Key Skills Required
Strong academic background in science (especially Physics and Math).
Physical fitness and mental stamina.
Leadership and communication skills.
Passion for aviation and national service.
Physical and Medical Standards
Height: Minimum 152 cm (varies for female and male candidates).
