how to become a nda officer

Becoming an NDA (National Defence Academy) officer is a dream for many students in India who are passionate about serving the nation through the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force. It’s a career filled with pride, honor, and immense responsibility. But how does one start the journey to becoming an NDA officer? Here’s everything you need to know in our blog on How to become a NDA officer.

Step 1: Understand the NDA

The National Defence Academy is a joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces where cadets of the Army, Navy, and Air Force train together before they go to their respective service academies for further training.

After completing the NDA course and additional training at respective academies, cadets are commissioned as officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

Step 2: Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, ensure you meet the basic eligibility:

  • Gender: Only male candidates are eligible (female candidates can join defence services through other routes like CDS or AFCAT).

  • Marital Status: Unmarried.

  • Age Limit: 16.5 to 19.5 years at the time of commencement of course.

  • Educational Qualification:

    • Army Wing: Passed 10+2 (any stream).

(Includes English, General Knowledge, Science, History, Geography, and Current Affairs)

Negative marking applies for wrong answers.

Step 4: Crack the SSB Interview

After clearing the written exam, shortlisted candidates are called for the SSB Interview (Services Selection Board), which is a 5-day process testing your personality, leadership, confidence, and officer-like qualities.

The process includes:

  • Screening Test (Day 1)

  • Psychology Tests (Day 2)

  • Group Tasks, Interview & Personal Tests (Day 3-4)

Those in the top ranks of the merit list are offered admission to the NDA.
